Lenovo, ZTE, Coolpad, TCL and Konka Form Alliance against Apple and Other Possible Patent Infringement Cases

Lenovo, ZTE, Coolpad, TCL and Konka Form Alliance against Apple and Other Possible Patent Infringement Cases

In lieu of the patent infringement lawsuits filed by Apple, a strong number of Chinese handset manufacturers have formed an alliance to counter the attack. This group includes key players in Chinese handset vendors such as Lenovo, ZTE, Coolpad, TCL and Konka. Apart from Apple, this union also serves as preparation for any future lawsuit that will be presented against them by other international manufacturers including Nokia and Microsoft. During Q3 of 2011, the shipment of smartphones has totaled 24 million in China. This led the Asian country to outperform the United States. As such, they have become the largest …

Tablets are a relatively new entry to the Android ecosystem but even so, they’ve quickly become a popular gadget to have. Being always-on and always connected has made it the go-to gadget for checking email, catching up on social sites and browsing the web. On top of all that, some versions can even make and receive calls, turning them into an ideal all-in-one device. Some of the models to currently out (as of this writing) are the HTC Flyer, the newer Samsung Galaxy Tab models and the Motorola Xoom. Meanwhile, device makers noticed that bigger screened phones measuring 4.0 inches …

ZTE Skates Into the Gingerbread Age

zte-skate

One of the hottest icebreakers at the 2011 Mobile World Congress is whether or not we’ve entered the Gingerbread Age. Following on the footheels of the Optimus 2X and the Galaxy S II, ZTE unveiled its skateboard-inspired , Android 2.3-running “Skate.” The Skate packs a 4.3-inch screen, 5-megapixel NSDPA camera, Bluetooth, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, and a G-sensor into 4.2 ounce shell. Its only noteworthy tradeoff is its 800MHz CPU.  This is a step behind higher-end models, but its Adreno 200 graphics processing unit and distinct silhouette—with an expected price point below $200 for North American customers—make it a quite attractive option for Android newcomers.

ZTE Light, a 7-inch Android tablet

The 7-inch ZTE Light Android tablet isn’t anything to shout about, but it does a good job at the obvious stuff. It runs Android 2.1 and packs Wi-Fi and 3G radio. Of course, there is a GPS unit along with an SD card slot for increasing your memory. What is nice to hear is that this device is alleged to offer 10 hours of battery life. We have no clue from the press release as to what the price point will be on this device. We’re not there either so we can’t give you the first hand account, but apparently …

Not wanting to be left out of the Android craze, Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE confirmed today that it plans to expand its lineup to include Android. Traditionally, ZTE has manufactured low cost Windows Mobile smartphones for a variety of operators worldwide and is making the move to Android due to pressure from wireless carriers who are clamoring for Android handsets. No word on what the new ZTE handsets will look like or to what country they will be delivered but expect to see these ZTE offerings come to the market very soon. [via PC World]

ZTE to release solar powered Android phone?

ZTE to release solar powered Android phone?

Back in MWC this year, ZTE promised to release the world first low-cost solar powered mobile phone: the Coral 200 Solar. ZTE announced that the device will go on sale in June as little as $40, which was then worth around £28 or €32. At this point there was no word on OS or hardware specifications. Nonetheless, we liked the idea of this phone because not only can 1 hour of sunlight give you 15mins of talk-time, but it can be charged from mains as well. This is a perfect device for the energy conscientious or perhaps even the more …
