At IFA in Berlin, Sony took the wraps off the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact smartphones. One of the most unique features on these devices is the 3D Creator app, which allows you to map a 3D image of pretty much anything and use it as a custom wallpaper, an AR effect, gaming, 3D printing, and more. Check out the video below to learn more about how it works:

If you’re interested in checking out this feature for yourself and currently own the Xperia XZ Premium, we have some good news — Sony has confirmed on Twitter that the high-end smartphone will receive the 3D Creator app with the Android 8.0 Oreo update. When exactly will that happen is anyone’s guess right now, as the company did not specify a time frame yet.

Along with the 3D Creator app, the update will also bring quite a few camera improvements to the device. These may include Autofocus burst, which tracks and captures sequences of moving objects in sharp focus to avoid blurred action shots, and Predictive Capture that attempts to capture unexpected motion such as your child’s smile. Just like the 3D Creator app, these two features are already available on the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact.
