Sony announced the official pricing of its Xperia X series. If you were hoping for the Xperia XA, Xperia X, and Xperia X Performance to be priced competitively, you’ll probably be a little disappointed.

Xperia X price and release date

The good news is the Xperia X will be cheaper than the Amazon UK listing from last week has led us to believe. In the UK, Sony will sell the Xperia X for £469, which is £30 cheaper than the current pre-order price on Amazon, and a whopping £80 cheaper than the initial Amazon pre-order price of £549.

While cheaper than we feared, the Xperia X is still expensive compared to some of its peers. For comparison, the Galaxy S7 sells in the UK for £462, while the LG G5 goes for £490. Both devices feature top of the line specs, including a Snapdragon 820 processor, as opposed to the mid-range Snapdragon 650 inside the Xperia X.

Across other European markets, the Sony Xperia X will cost €599 (France, Germany, Netherlands) or €629 (Italy, Spain).

The Xperia X will be released in the week starting May 23.

Xperia X Performance price and release date

The Xperia X Performance is the top of the line in Sony’s new X range (which abruptly ended the reign of the Xperia Z series). The device runs on a Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB of RAM, features a 5-inch Full HD display and a 23MP camera. It’s the direct competitor to flagships from Samsung, LG, or HTC. The former two can be bought for around €600 in Europe, while the HTC10 is available for €700.

In Europe, the Sony Xperia X Performance will cost €699 (France, Netherlands) or €729 (Italy, Spain). Curiously, Sony did not announce any details about the availability of the device in the UK and Germany, two of the continent’s largest markets.

In Europe, Sony will start shipping the Xperia X Performance from the week starting July 4.

Xperia XA price and release date

Finally, the smallest sibling of the X family, the Xperia XA packs mid-range specs into an attractive design with a “bezel-less” 5-inch display.

In Europe, the Xperia XA will be available for €299 (France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy), €329 (Spain) or £239 (UK).

The Xperia XA will start shipping from the week of June 20.
