Back in September of 2013 Phonebloks first caught our attention by announcing its concept idea for a modular phone system. At the time we felt the project seemed cool, but we questioned the feasibility of such a plan, but then Motorola got involved with Project Ara, and instantly the concept seemed a little more believable. Since then, Google has taken over the project and put quite a bit of resources into it.

Now it is 2015 and while Project Ara isn’t commercially available just yet, it’s expected to have at least a limited release sometime in the first part of this year. We still don’t have all the details on the commercial release or exactly how Project Ara will work once it becomes more than just a working concept, but today hopefully some of the mystery will be shed as Google is kicking off its second Project Ara module developer conference!

Interested to learn more about Ara? While the conference is obviously aimed at developers, general Ara enthusiast can also virtually attend by watching the livestream above, which will go live at 11am EST.
