An interesting find at the FCC's website reveals that NVIDIA may be planning a new tablet for 2016. Unfortunately details are quite limited as of right now.

For some, NVIDIA’s SHIELD tablets have been the Nexus 7 follow-ups that never were, even if the size is a more bountiful 8-inches. The key is that they (1) typically have good specs and lower prices, and (2) make use of a more-or-less “stock” version of Android, thus the devices are of interest to those who prefer to work without copious amounts of skin.

Additionally, the tablets are essentially mobile gaming powerhouses that have seen the Trine series and other such franchises make their way over, something basically impossible for other Android tablets.

Lilliputing has stumbled onto what may be indication of NVIDIA’s prepping a new offering for 2016, courtesy of the FCC’s own website, where this appeared:

Included in the filing are the following details:

  • The product’s model number is P2290W.
  • The product has micro-USB connectivity.
  • The product has support for both 5GHz and 2.4GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity
  • The product support for Bluethooth Low Energy support
  • The product measures 8.6 inches X 4.8 inches X 0.3 inches.
  • The product weighs 12.3 oz.

Nothing is mentioned regarding specs or other details. At the very least, it can be expected the tablet would have a Full HD (1920 X 1280) display, possibly even a QHD resolution panel. Liliputing suggests it could also have NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 SoC and additional RAM. Last year’s model had a Tegra K1 and 2GB of RAM.

Visually speaking the tablet looks generally similar to those that have come in the past. It is unknown whether this device would also include a stylus.
