xiaomi mi4 review aa (9 of 19)

Xiaomi looks to be expanding its already extensive product line-up even further early next year. Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has announced, via Weibo, that the company is preparing to introduce its next flagship device sometime in January 2015.

Unfortunately for us, no further details about the device or launch date have been given out yet. Speculation is ranging from a new Mi flagship smartphone, although it seems unlikely that the Mi5 would arrive so soon after its predecessor, to a larger 5.5-inch Mi4S refresh or a successor to popular low cost RedMi Note. A tablet could also be on the cards, as the company launched its first tablet, the Mi Pad, more than 6 months ago.

Could this be Xiaomi’s next smartphone?

However, there is also a possibility that this unspecified device may not be smartphone related at all. Details and pictures have emerged that point to an upcoming Xiaomi Notebook, which is expected to cost somewhere around 2999 Yuan (approximately $480). The Xiaomi Notebook is said to come with a 15-inch 1080p display and will be powered by an Intel Haswell i7-4500u processor, accompanied by 2 x 8GB dual channel memory and a customised version of Linux. However, no official details about the notebook have been announced by the Chinese manufacturer.

In other Xiaomi news, the company has recently completed its latest funding campaign for a further 1.1 billion US dollars, valuing Xiaomi at $45 billion. The latest investors to back the company are All-Stars Investment, Russian firm DST Global, Singapore sovereign-wealth fund GIC, Hopu Fund, and Yunfeng Capital.

What do you think Xiaomi has planned for January 2015?

Xiaomi NoteBook is way more interesting than Mi Successor ..

    • turbolife

a copycat form macbook air. do not be like this, and it sucks.Steve will be not happy.

      • IHSFT

Stop blowing job’s corpse man.. this has way better specs than a mac.

        • turbolife

Negative. This one can not beat Macbook air.Trust me, bro. Steve is Steve. Xiaomi is not Steve’s apple.

          • Airyl

You can’t compare something that hasn’t been released with something that’s already on sale. It’s common logic.

      • dodz

are you steve’s long lost brother? Blow jobs?

        • turbolife

You got it.And i am a fan of Steve, not apple. Without Steve, apple is just an ordinary apple.

          • Airyl

            That picture isn’t real.

        • Jay

          bwhahahaha niceone bro

      • MasterMuffin

Is a laptop –> Macbook copy

Edit. Oh that pic didn’t load for me at first.

        • BZ

hahaha! i had the same problem…. but have to admit it looks pretty similar to a macbook air, of course android authority won’t say that because they are “sponsored” by xiaomi

          • MasterMuffin

Most ultrabooks do, eg. Samsung’s series 9. There are only so many ways you can make a thin laptop though

          • turbolife

Maybe but we do not like copying and it does not show respect for developers.

          • MasterMuffin

Developers couldn’t care less, but designers might :P

          • BZ

no way, samsung’s series 9 looks way different than a macbook air. But hey it xiaomi xD one couldn’t expect them to do any different.

          • turbolife

Are you sure?Android authority are “sponsored” by xiaomi? We need a fair review instead of misleading customers.

          • Airyl

It’s not the real thing. It’s a pretty clear photoshop.

      • Nabeel

No offence but Apple handles it in future..by suing…:)

        • turbolife

Pretty sure!Steve made it!Without Steve, we will see how apples goes further and brings more innovations. Cook is not Steve.

      • Annaise

not tryin to be rude but i’m pretty sure almost no one actually cares if Steve will be happy or not. It’s not like he is a god or something, though I am somehow a fan of his.

      • nickelbleu

U can go and sulk in the corner for all we care while we celebrate with our new Xiaomi phones. One day soon U will find u r left far behind.

    • Karly Johnston

That MiPad was a real hit… all of 20 sales.

      • turbolife

I will not buy it truly. I will buy a Macbook air in the future. That’s amazing! Beautiful design,so clean!

        • Airyl

          The Mipad is a tablet.

      • Airyl

It did pretty well in China apparently.

  • 0 Originality

Ripping off Apple’s design time after time. How shameless can they be? Look at that laptop…
You can argue about Apple’s software but one this is for sure, they design stunning products.

    • ShitMyNameWontF

Keep paying for Apple’s overpriced products. Ever wonder why Apple has so much money? It’s because they charge 3-4x what it costs them, and blind fools like yourself will go and buy it. Much profit for them.

      • turbolife

Bro, you know that. If there is no iphone, Sumsang , HTC Nokia and Moto and so on will sell smartphone more expensive. Iphone has made a new mark about the price of smartphones, less than 5288RMB in China. So thanks for apple, and thanks for Steve.

    • turbolife

U are right! Bro! Copycat is copycat. Xiaomi is following the designs of Nokia Lumia and apple’s products. So i will not buy one product of Xiaomi.

      • Airyl

        They’re really good devices.

    • Airyl

      It’s a photoshopped image.

  • ShitMyNameWontF

If exact replicas of Apple’s devices can be built and sold for half the price Apple asks for, that should tell you that Apple overcharges for their products. Instead of crying and defending Apple, you guys should be upset that Apple stole your money. Blind idiots…

    • Airyl

It’s not exactly a good thing.
