Fans of LG’s work on previous Nexus phones are anxiously looking forward to the so-called Nexus 5 (2015), a device that has leaked extensively over the past few weeks.

One detail that has eluded us so far is the LG Nexus’ release date, but if this report from Korean website MKPost is accurate, we’re only a month away from the phone’s grand entrance.

MKPost claims that the Nexus 5 (2015) will hit the Google Store on September 29. Reportedly, this information comes from an anonymous source who has correctly predicted the release date of the original Nexus 5, back in 2013. The LG Nexus will be made available through the Google Store in South Korea, says the report, but it’s not clear whether September 29 is when the phone launches internationally or in Korea.

The source didn’t know whether Huawei’s Nexus would launch at the same date.

To be perfectly clear, this is a story from a source that isn’t known for tech rumors reporting. That considered, September 29 makes sense for the release of the Nexus 5 (2015). Google appears ready to introduce Android 6.0 Marshmallow (with the recent release of the final SDK) and Android Pay is right around the corner. Google typically launches Nexus smartphones around October, and late September fits that timeline.

What else do we know about the LG-made Nexus? Provided the body of reports is not hopelessly flawed, we know quite a lot: just earlier this week we’ve seen a purported spec sheet, and hands-on images and renders based on CAD schematics of the device give us a pretty good idea of what to expect. Check out our rumor roundup for more on the LG Nexus (and its “Made in China” counterpart).

Thoughts on this potential release date?

I cannot wait to buy this. Granted, it has to be sub-$400. I will not buy another Nexus device if its priced as high as my Nexus 6. Love this phone but some days I wonder just why it costs so much.

    • Itr’s going to be hard to get back to a 5.2” screen from Nexus 6. I am waiting for the Huwai one, not because of the form factor. A person who used the big phones, its hard to get back to the small phone. Lets see what the review says about these devices. But no matter what I’m getting a nexus device this year, either the lg one or the big one.

      • Colonel JK Stern

I hear you. I am going to have a hard time but I’ve had a hard time looking the size. I had a g3 before this and found it to be a perfect sized phone. Maybe the wahway phone might be a good option or the moto x

        • I’m a nexus person, so never use any othe device than nexus. I just cant stand the disgusting ui of the phone makers ot there. Why cant they just add stock android? I was too exited about OP2 but it turns out to be one of the ugly phone I’ve seen so far and also does not have NFC & 2K screen. So, not waiting for the next nexus.

          • trob6969

…because they know they can add capabilities that Google doesn’t include in stock, and i applaud them for it.

          • Drew

They could keep the stock skin but add their own apps and features, like Moto does it. Best of both worlds.

        • K. Nelson

Wait, let me guess, are you on Verizon unlimited? I don’t know too many people willingly using the SGS3 that aren’t on an unlimited plan. I’m in the same boat. It’s going to be a tough choice, lots of good phones coming out the end of the year.

          • Colonel JK Stern

            me??? I’m on AT&T.

          • K. Nelson

Unlimited? Or just holding out for the perfect phone? I held out because I was unwilling to pay full price for the so called “flagship” phones that have come out up until now. S6 is great, but that price tag is not. I’m also eyeing the new Moto X. It’s a good year for phones.

          • LewisDawg

I’m still willingly using the SGS3 because I haven’t found an upgrade that I had to have. Running custom roms made it possible to wait this long. After getting my hopes up for the S6, I really hope the LG Nexus meets the hype.

          • hoolah

same here i have a s4 and i tried the latest lollipop rom for 3 weeks , now back to KitKat because of non stop problems with it , it runs nicely with KitKat and no real reason to upgrade as it is such a good device and a doddle to load roms on etc

“Itr’s going to be hard to get back to a 5.2” screen from Nexus 6″

You’d be surprised. I loved a lot about my N6 but downsized to a G2, which is 5.2″, and I adjusted quickly and easily. I actually miss the front speakers far more (and stock Android, obviously). And that’s considering the LG nav bar is a bit taller than stock (I think?), taking more away from screen space.

I’d bet that 5.2″ is a happy medium for most people. Great for light media consumption but can still be used one-handed for enough purposes. A lot has to do with slimness of bezels, though.

If you love it so much, why are you buying the new one?

      • Colonel JK Stern

I can’t and have not been able to get used to the size

        • Vic Bowker

I get that. I have a 5 and love it too. I don’t think I could get used to a larger one.

  • ROB

Hopefully they put a respectable battery or I am going to Canada and getting the Motorola..

    • Josh Johnson

I highly doubt it will if you look at how the camera is, I think it would look odd and exposed if the back was removable, but the motorola doesn’t either..

      • ROB

respectable… not removable… the Moto Style in Canada will have the Droid Turbo 2 battery..

I want the LG Nexus. Had the nexus 5 and loved it. Went to iPhone not too long ago and have been regretting it for some time. I just want the material to be like the OG HTC One X. That thing was DURABLE and felt great to hold with out a case.

  • flye

Is it possible for this phone to have a 3000mah battery?

    • Eddy Edd

      coming from aLGea nope!

  • Barry Forry

I hope google comes up with a better idea than the note 5

  • Alexander Sofinskiy

To install 2k display in 5.2 inch phone was stupid decision. Why we need that? SD808 and just 3gb ddr3 ram – the same specs as N6. So its definitely no reason for me to update my n5 and n6 to this new n5 and n6 (huawei). Please dont be dreamers about battery on this one..

  • JSo

Well Q3 is when Google is stating the final marshmallow build will be available so I believe it.

  • Cakefish

I shall be buying this phone on two conditions: 1) it has a camera at least as good as my Moto X Play and 2) it has battery life at least as long as my Moto X Play.

  • Rachel Miller

I’ll be getting the Huawei version myself. Love my nexus 6 don’t want to go back down in size I can actually see my texts without my glasses in the morning LOL

  • tyb82

So disappointed its only 5.2in :(

  • SirWoggles

Please Google, make this one cheap. Like…. in price, not in quality.
