HP Powerup Backpack

HP as unveiled a new smart backpack, called the Powerup Backpack, that can charge up your phone, tablet, and laptop while you’re out on the go. The backpack has just gone up for pre-order on Amazon with a rather expensive $199.99 price tag. The pack will start shipping out on October 1st 2016.

The Powerup Backpack features a huge 22,400mAh rechargeable battery pack, which HP says is enough to charge a typical smartphone up 10 times over or juice up a tablet 3 times. There’s also space inside to fit a 17.3-inch laptop, and the pack should be able to charge up most HP models. However, the backpack doesn’t feature any USB Type-C ports, although it should still charge up phones using an adaptor cable, and fast charging technologies aren’t support either, which is a little bit disappointing given the price tag. The backpack itself can be recharged through an easy to access side-pocket plug.

The smart aspect of the kit comes in the form of a built-in temperature sensor that is designed to ensure that the backpack doesn’t become to warm while charging. The Powerup Backpack also allows the wearer to configure the priority and order in which devices charge.

The idea is certainly rather useful and it would be great to see a wider range of these products with support for additional hardware. If you’re interested in pre-ordering the HP Powerup Backpack for $199.99, check out the Amazon link below.
