What is F-Secure Freedome VPN?

indie app of the day
F-Secure Freedome VPN is a little known but very solid VPN application for Android. As the name implies, it creates a VPN so you can browse in private. VPNs in general are lauded for their ability to keep you and your devices safe from outside threats so it’s generally recommended to use a VPN when things like that may be a problem. Such an instance would be any public access WiFi spot.

Freedome is a simple application to use. It doesn’t require too much of a set up so even VPN novices can still use this app without much difficulty. You simply tap the center of the screen to turn it on. From there you can alter your virtual location if you so choose, see all the settings, and even view explanations as to what each setting does. The design is colorful and spacious. You are never more than two taps or swipes away from any individual setting.

Once set up the app not only acts as a VPN but also as a sort of browsing security app. If you find your way to a harmful site, F-Secure prevents you from going there. If an attack is attempted on your device, this app will stop it. Then you can go to the settings and see how many sites and attacks have been attempted. That’s really it folks.

The app is free download and you get a seven day free trial to see if you like it. If you do, you can purchase a subscription on a yearly or monthly basis depending on your needs. It’s $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year.

What is wrong with this app?

The app currently rocks a 4.5 rating in the Google Play Store so as you can imagine there isn’t much wrong. Some people have had connection issues where the app simply will not connect to the VPN server. Other connection issues that have been reported include not having access to the internet at all when Freedome is active. The developers have responded to all complaints so far and that’s usually a good sign.

Final thoughts

If you’re in the market for a VPN app, it’s hard not to recommend F-Secure Freedome. It has a simplistic and well-designed interface and it works for pretty much everyone. Having a VPN app around is never a bad idea especially if you travel frequently or regularly use public WiFi. The pricing structure is designed so you can buy a single month if you only need it short term or for a whole year if you plan on using the VPN frequently. You also get a pretty decent price break for purchasing a year. If this looks up your alley, click the button below to get started!

    The NSA is behind it

    • MasterMuffin

F-Secure is a reputable Finnish security company. No NSA :)

    • pdexter

      It’s the opposite of NSA.

Company behind this, F-Secure has been campaigning against NSA and example boycotted large secure conference in US called RSA because of some of the companies opening backdoors for NSA. They opened their own shadow event.

Not available in India,I have to use another VPN to download it

  • Android Developer

developers should stop treating the “up” button (the one on the top left) the same as the back button. it’s not the same.

other than that, does this app also have data compression like other apps have?

I would recommend PrivateTunnel, which is based on openvpn. It’s cheap and you buy your VPN access in data chunks. Once you use up your chunk, you buy more. It never expires and there’s no monthly or yearly anything. Works on multiple platforms to boot!

I love this app, but I’m finding that it’s battery usage is at 30%. Is there a reason for that? If I set app optimisation to always, will it affect how it works?

You better to try other VPN App, there are numerous vpn app for android both free and paid that you can install on your android. I personally don’t recommend free vpn apps as they are not secure enough.
