Just make sure to separate each item with “and” for improved results. Your voice quality and English accent may also affect the app’s voice-recognition results.

I’m satisfied with the the lite version of this app. But, if you want to unlock more features, you will need to purchase the premium version of the app. Unlocking the app will let you use its extended features such as cloud backup, syncing to other devices, barcode scanner, recipes, and many more.

You seem to have forgotten Cozi and it’s long list of features and convenience. Definitely an app that my family and I use several times a day!!

i’m w/ you on Cozi. Group access, web access from any computer, multiple lists that can be named anything a person would want, instant updating to all users, and FREE. the only thing it’s missing is a barcode reader.

a very big +1 for OurGroceries
It might not be the most beautiful app, but the way it works is just perfect. The list gets synced across devices and plattforms almost instantly and the WEB UI is a big plus as well. It’s also very helpful that the user can add cooking recipes in the app or on the website and later just click a cooking recipe to add the stuff to the shopping list.

My family uses OurGroceries as well and we love it. I may try some of the others but I always seem to end up back there. We tend to buy the same items every month so we use the recipes section by store instead of recipe. So we just go to the “recipe” and add the items we need to that store.

I appreciate the gathering of apps, but few people have the time to try them all. Can you recommend your favorite one or two of these?

I was using Grocery IQ and when I updated it and now I can’t get my list and there is no scanner anymore and I am upet cause it would have been a great appt for grocery shopping. I got to use it once and it was just great but now I am upset cause I spent all day scanning and entering in all my items that are no longer there since I updated.

I’ve started looking at grocery list apps and reviews and the one I think seems easiest is called ‘List Bliss’ (although the app name on the phone is ‘List Ease’, on the Google Play store ‘Shopping (Grocery) List Bliss’. Some of the better features I found are 1) predictive suggestions, type in che, and it gives a list: cheese cheddar, cheese swiss, cottage cheese, cheese crackers, . . ., 2) barcode input, 3) items added automatically go into a category, 4) up four lists for the free version, 5) automatic syncing with other accounts*. I had it crashed a few times. Missing I see in others apps is audio input (I tried Android mic on the keyboard, but it didn’t seem to work, could be user error)

*what I didn’t realize is how to set up syncing, to share a list, I think, you need at least one item in it. then click on share and type e-mail address of whom ever. When they get the e-mail, having list bliss already installed, clicking on the link within will connect the two devices. From then on anyone whom adds items to the list will show up on the other’s phone. The email only needs to be sent once to set up, I think per list. You might need to hit the re-sync button. You can also see your lists on the list bliss web site.

  • Paul Hillman

See my earlier review of List Bliss about 2 hours ago. I have now looked at Grocery IQ, I didn’t earlier as others complained about the new (Dec 12, 12) GUI. It does everything List Bliss does, plus has audio input, and lists coupons you can print out. In the sample list it came with, it had Cheerios, which listed a 50 cent coupon for the honey nut cheerios. The coupons are from http://www.coupons.com and you need to install their coupon printer software for your browser, but the link of possible coupons to your grocery list may prove convenient (I didn’t see much else I’d use scanning the coupon lists). I think I like LB screen a little better. I tested both programs for how well they scanned UPC symbols. GroceryIQ allows you to keep scanning items, it beeps after each one is recognized, List Bliss you need to hit the scan button again after each. Some items GIQ didn’t know, it just beeped, but no item showed up, LB allows you to add the item for next time. For non-major brand items LB seemed a little better, it got Trader Joe Peanut butter (as just Peanut Butter), Kroger Sweet Hot Mustard (as just Kroger Mustard), where GIQ didn’t recognize them at all. But GIQ got Reese Sardines, it also got Sara Lee Heart Healthy bread 20 oz, where LB just identified it as Sara Lee bread, and didn’t ID the sardines.

There’s a really promising shopping list app called Rainbow Grocery List (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chak.rainbow.list)

It’s still in beta though, not sure when is 1.0 coming out.

  • Sean

My family and I have been using Rainbow Shopping List and we are loving it!

Try the new, free and tiny Mark!t. Sometimes less is better…

Hi, Is there a grocery app that you can use barcodes to add to the list but also use read the barcode in the store to cross that item off the list. I’ve only seen apps that can use the barcode to add to list.

It is great to see there are so many options out there. We have been using ZipList for over two years now and still love it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ziplist.app

The fact that my husband and I can sync and share the same grocery list has been a life saver. My favorite feature is that the list is auto-grouped by store aisle so we get out of the store pretty quickly.

  • Sarah SS

Great post, but now there are better apps for Android, like Tomatoes:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomatoesapp

It’s very simple to use and allows me to have a history of my purchase, helping me to keep track of how much I’ve already spent before my shopping is over. I love it!

  • http://listonic.com/ Filip Miłoszewski

    Thank you for including Listonic!
We have just launched a fully redesingend version https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.l much faster with full flat design, even easier list sharing and autocategorization of items that match store aisles)

    > A body without a soul is like a house without the necessary supplies for everyday living.

You do realize that souls don’t exist, right?

  • Gary Underwood Patton

I built NandOut (on Google Play) as a free app with a rather extensive user maintainable database and the option to sort your list in store aisle sequence. Once you get the hang of it, you can operate it with one hand. Why not give it a try.

  • Virgil Mocanu

This is what I use all the time: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homecortex.groceryShoppingList

    It
saves me time by automatically arranging items in the order that I grab
them from the shelf at the store. No more back-and-forth in the
grocery store because I forgot to get something from Isle 1.

Frankly, I could not imagine going grocery shopping without it. All the other ones I tried are gimmicks. Some just benefit the author by collecting data about you and your shopping habits.

My app of choice is Carrot. Makes it super convenient to keep track of my shopping lists without the unnecessary bells and whistles.

  • http://www.organizy.com Organizy

Hi! Would you also mind trying the Organizy shopping list app for Android? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.organizy.shopping.list

This is the only shopping list app, which can be used with one hand – leaving the other free to take products off the shelves and put them into your shopping cart ;-)
