Amazon is extending its Alexa-powered hardware product lineup into a very different avenue with the newly announced Echo Look connected camera. This is no ordinary web cam; Amazon is targeting the fashion-focused with its ability to take full-length photos and videos.

Alexa is the quiet star of CES

The Echo Look uses the voice command features available with Amazon Alexa so that users can take photos and videos of themselves without having to touch the camera. It also includes depth-sensing features. This will allow users to blur the background in any photo to make sure the focus is on them in the pictures.

Creating full-length selfie pictures and videos may sound silly to some people, but Amazon is hoping that the audience that loves to dress up in style for work or play will embrace the Echo Look. The camera includes a feature called Style Check, which will use machine learning algorithms combined with advice from fashion experts. It is supposed to tell you which outfits that you are wearing in your photos look best on you. The feature is supposed to improve over time as well as it learns more about your specific style. The camera also comes with a dedicated smartphone app so you can browse through all of the pictures that you take with the device.

The Echo Look can also be used like Amazon’s Echo speakers, which means you can ask it, via Alexa, to give you the local weather forecast, read the news, set alarms, control smart devices and more. The camera is priced at $199.99, but at the moment, it’s only available to purchase via a special invitation. You can request an invite to buy the Echo Look at the link below. There’s no word yet on when it will be generally available to the public.
