Mass market Vodafone 845 to hit the UK

Mass market Vodafone 845 to hit the UK

Vodafone like HTC and seem to love Android. They currently have a mini army of Android phones available, including the HTC Legend, Nexus One, and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Now Vodafone have one of their very own custom branded Android devices known as the Vodafone 845. The Vodafone 845 isn’t in the same league as the aforementioned devices when it comes to the specification sheet. However, it is positioned right in the middle of the mass consumer market and packs enough to keep a wide audience happy; from teenagers through to older-folk. Not every needs cutting edge after all. The …

Dell devices “Sparta” and “Athens” to run Android

Dell devices “Sparta” and “Athens” to run Android

This Dell ‘roadmap’ reveals forthcoming Android based devices from computer manufacturer Dell, including a rough timeline on when we can expect to see them materialise. This particular visualisation of Dell’s timeline comes via AndroidCentral, and reveals two new tablet/netbook class devices called “Sparta” and “Athens”. Both devices are alleged to be around the 11” mark, but the Sparta is a tablet while the Athens is considered a 0.9-kilogram “True notebook”. Both devices come with optional 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth, powered by an an ARM based processor. Now, maybe I am missing something here but according to the original source, AndroidCentral …

We have covered all three of these devices extensively over the last few months, but here is a summary of links to guide you on your way should you be in the market for a new phone. HTC Legend available for pre-order on Vodafone UK

HTC Legend available for pre-order on Vodafone UK

The HTC Legend is now available for pre-order on Vodafone UK, and other websites operating as resellers for Vodafone. The website quite clearly states that if you pre-order yours today you should receive it first, and it is expected on 6 April, which is a Tuesday. It wouldn’t surprise me if this ended up hitting your pocket by Monday or earlier. Vodafone as pushing the fact there is ‘Adobe Flash’ for ‘great looking websites’. Want a phone you can make your own? Go for the HTC Legend. With up to seven home screens, there’s plenty of room to get things …

HTC Legend blocks Android Market applications in the Netherlands

HTC Legend blocks Android Market applications in the Netherlands

The Dutch version of the HTC Legend seems to be experiencing some problems in the Android Market and we’re not sure who is to blame. HTC have come right out and said that the restricted access to applications such as Skype and Layer is not their doing, putting the onus firmly with Google. Google are yet to release a formal statement, but it is probably unlikely that they are blocking these applications on purpose. The HTC Legend itself is an attractive piece of kit. “The sleek unibody design with a brilliant AMOLED display and a brushed metallic finish, feels great …

Vodafone Android Phone comes with Mariposa Malware

Vodafone Android Phone comes with Mariposa Malware

An article at Internet Storm Center published yesterday warns of  Malware on the HTC Hagic. Panda Security came across the infection when one of their employees baught a brand new Vodafone Android device and plugged it into their Windows based computer. Analysis of the malware revealed that it was a Mariposa bot client. In a blog post at Panda Security, researcher Pedro Bustamante said, “Here is yet another example of a company distributing malware to its userbase. Unfortunately it probably won’t be the last”. Bustamante noted that when a colleague/friend of his hooked up the Vodafone HTC Magic to her …

Sony Ericcson Xperia X10 coming to Vodafone UK in April

Sony Ericcson Xperia X10 coming to Vodafone UK in April

Pretty much what it says on the label with this one. The coverted Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is officially due for release on Vodafone UK in April this year. This release date comes shortly after the news that it will also be available in Germany around this time with T-Mobile. The Xperia X11 is a unusual Android phone for a couple of reasons. First, it is one of the largest devices to run Android as a smartphone, primarily due to the fact that it sports a 4” touchscreen display. Second, it also runs its own user-interface over the top of …

Motorola unveils MILESTONE – GSM version of the DROID

Motorola unveils MILESTONE – GSM version of the DROID

Motorola has launched a website that details all of the goodies found in the new GSM/UMTS version of the DROID that will be known as the MILESTONE. From what I can gather, it appears to be basically the same device with new network support and some relatively minor software changes.  I gather from what the spec sheet says that this phone will not offer Google Maps Navigation, since MOTONAV is included on the phone.  It does supposedly support multitouch zoom control in the browser, though, so that’s certainly going to appeal to a lot of people. BTW, I posted the …

HTC Tattoo with Donut coming to Vodafone UK in October

HTC Tattoo with Donut coming to Vodafone UK in October

According to the Vodafone UK website, the HTC Tatoo will be coming to the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish sometime in October. As I am sure you are aware, the Tatoo is quite similar to the other HTC Android offerings, sporting HSDPA and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It was first announced earlier this month and will also pack a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB ROM/256MB RAM, and a 2.8’’ resistive touch-screen display. Vodafone’s own website state that it will offer a 3.2’’ display, which is probably a typo as this is also the same spec as the camera. Here …

The HTC Magic is pulled by Vodafone New Zealand

The HTC Magic is pulled by Vodafone New Zealand

In an interesting turn of events, Vodafone New Zealand appear to have pulled the HTC Magic ‘with Google’ from their website. The omission was first spotted by blogger Ben Gracewood, who states in no uncertain terms “Vodafone NZ has completely removed the HTC Magic from sale in New Zealand. They’ve removed all mention of it from their website, and removed existing stock from store shelves.” According to the New Zealand Herald, recent calls to Vodafone about the HTC Magic elicited a response along the lines of ‘the phone can be bought for $1099 NZD, but there are none in stock …

HTC Magic for Vodafone review

HTC Magic for Vodafone review

MobileBurn’s Russell Jefferies has a review of the HTC Magic for Vodafone up on our sister-site, MobileBurn.com.  He comes away very impressed with the device, and Android, overall, but has a few complaints. For starters, the battery life of the Magic is still so poor as to demand a daily recharge, just as was the case with the G1.  He’s also not super impressed with the camera at times, and laments the lack of a 3.5mm headphone port and full Bluetooth profile support. On the up side, though, he loves the UI, the capacitive touchscreen display, and the GPS functionality.  …

HTC Magic lands in the UK with Vodafone

HTC Magic lands in the UK with Vodafone

A day after it was promised, the HTC Magic limped into Vodafone stores across the UK this Saturday, the 2nd of May. Most stores had not even updated their shop fronts with any HTC Magic advertisements or general goodies by 11am. Only one of the three stores in Oxford’s busy city centre had updated their awnings to replace the small HTC Magic logo with an equally small, “it’s here” sign. The price plans are somewhat steep compared to online, but it is also worth noting that both online and in store prices now exclude the 12 month price plan options. …
