Users of the Samsung Captivate I897 will have reasons to celebrate as an all new Ice Cream Sandwich ROM has been released for the device.

The fully opensource ROM known as Codename Android will set new standards in custom ROM modifications. Codename Android is based on Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and is built with speed, stability, and customizability in mind.

The Samsung Captivate I897 was recently blessed with the Codename Android ROM, which roughly translates to official Codename Android ROMs instead of unofficial ports.

For others, it simply doesn’t work. Thanks to both mikel.canovas and h3llstorm, members of XDA Developers, there is now a way to fix that troublesome GPS. The Samsung Captivate now joins the long list of devices that had already received unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades. XDA Developers member [...]

by: JoseFebruary 6, 2012

So many are eagerly waiting for and wanting to get Ice Cream Sandwich on their Android phones. It’s like a thirst that hasn’t been quenched quite yet. The sad thing about it is that manufacturers are taking forever to release ICS updates for their devices. Though we have our Android community to back us up with custom ICS ROMs, still they are not quite there yet. Some of us might already have tasted the awesomeness of ICS, but most of the time, satisfaction is partial. Most of the builds are not yet perfect.

If you are getting a bit hopeless about having ICS on your device, the latest custom ICS ROM for the Samsung Captivate will surely cheer you up. This custom ROM is [...]

Select AT&T Android devices may get app sideloading as early as today

by: glennMay 18, 2011

Sideloading isn’t exactly the optimal method to install your apps. After all, that’s what the Android Market’s for. Unfortunately sometimes you really need to install the app without purchasing it again – after all, if you’ve bought it via alternate legal means, you probably won’t be able to fire up the Android Market just to buy it again or maybe, the app isn’t available on the market and this is the only way you’ll be able to get it.

Anyway, more than a year ago, AT&T showed off a line of Android phones that depended entirely on the Android Market – which meant these phones weren’t capable of sideloading [...]
