Zens brings wireless charging to your car’s cup holder

Zens is now introducing a car charger that brings wireless charging to your cup carrier, priced at €69.99 or roughly $100.
April 2, 2014

The number of mobile devices that support wireless charging grows by the day, giving Android users an easy way to plop down their devices onto a charger while at home without having to worry about cables. Now Zens is looking to take that same experience and bring it to our automobiles with its ZENS Qi Wireless Car Charger.

The wireless automotive charger fits into your existing cup carrier and plugs right into your car’s 9-volt port. As for charging your handset, you simply slide it into the ZEN charger and that’s it. On the downside, the design means that your phone’s sound is likely going to end up a bit muffled and you’ll also be limited to using the accessory with phones that offer a screen size no larger than 5-inches.

Zen’s QI wireless charger isn’t the first of its kind, but it is pretty handy and well-designed, despite a few limitations. The car charger will be available through various online retailers starting on April 15 for €69.99, or roughly $100 in the United States. Of course that’s a hard sale compared to a wired charger that typically runs for well under $15.

What do you think, interested in the idea of bringing QI charging to your automobile? Or do you feel that the convenience isn’t worth the extra cost?
