Earlier this month a rumor began floating around the web claiming that the Sony Xperia Z2 might be delayed due to manufacturing issues. At the time, the rumor suggested the delay was due to an unnamed supplier issue and that the problem would potentially force Sony to initially launch the Xperia Z2 in limited quantities.

Adding a little bit of fuel to this fire, Sony Mobile has now removed the SIM-free Xperia Z2 for pre-order on all of its regional websites. That said, it’s still possible to place pre-orders on certain carrier versions.

So what does all this mean exactly? It could certainly mean that Sony hasn’t been able to produce enough units to meet demand, but we still can’t confirm that a manufacturing issue is behind all of this. For all we know, pre-order interest may have simply been higher than Sony originally planned for, or for that matter, the removal of pre-order information might be a temporary situation that could change again within a matter of days.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for more information about the Xperia Z2’s launch and the possibility of a delay. What’s your take on the situation? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
