Last night Sony finally announced the long-rumored miniaturized Xperia Z1, known officially as the Xperia Z1 Compact. Unfortunately, Sony didn’t specify how much this bad boy will cost, but luckily it has now been priced by select retailers in Europe!

According to, the handset will set users back €499 in Germany for the SIM-free version, and is already available for pre-order right now in all four colors. For users in the UK, it is expected to cost around £430, and can now be pre-ordered from both Unlocked-Mobiles and Clove in your choice of black or white.

Although these appear to be the only retailers currently offering the handset for pre-order, we do know that O2, the Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U are also expected to carry the device sometime between the end of January and the middle of February.

How about the rest of Europe? While not much else has been divulged when it comes to retailer pricing, we’d imagine that most markets in Europe will stick somewhere around the UK or German pricing, so around the €499 mark (or about $680) — though that’s just speculation on our part.

What do you think of the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, impressed to finally see a “mini” handset with high-end specs or would you rather get a handset with a larger, 1080p display instead?
