Xiaomi announces smartphone trade-in plans for Mi and Redmi phones in India

You can now trade in your older Mi and Redmi phones in India for newer models and get back as much as 70% of their value. Xiaomi has introduced different buyback plans under a new Mi Smart Upgrade program. The plans start at Rs. 399 (~$5) and offer fixed buyback values if you upgrade your handsets anytime after three months to 15 months.

The buyback value of your Mi and Redmi phones changes in accordance with different redemption periods. For instance, if you exchange a Xiaomi Mi 10 for the next flagship anytime between 91 – 180 days of purchasing it, you’ll get an assured buyback value of 70% of the retail price.

The minimum assured buyback value you can get is 40% of the retail price if you exchange your phone between 13 – 15 months. You can check out all the buyback values and redemption periods for the Mi Smart Upgrade program below.

Unfortunately, not all Redmi and Mi phones are eligible for the Mi Smart Upgrade program. You can only avail the plans on the Redmi 9 series, Redmi Note 9 series, Redmi K20 Pro, and the Mi 10 series. Check out the prices for all the upgrade plans below.

Xiaomi’s trade-in program is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Assured buyback program in India. The only difference is that Samsung’s scheme is limited to flagship phones, whereas Xiaomi has also considered affordable Redmi devices.
