Could Mi Charge Turbo be Xiaomi's 100W charging solution?

Xiaomi made waves earlier this year when it demonstrated 100W charging technology, juicing up a 4,000mAh battery in just 17 minutes.

It now looks like we can expect more charging-related news from the Chinese brand, as it’s just announced a Mi Charge Turbo event on September 9. The company announced the news on Weibo, complete with a poster for the event. You can check it out below:

We don’t know if the technology announced at this event (likely called Mi Charge Turbo) is indeed 100W charging or if it’s more like 40W or 55W charging as seen on Huawei, Oppo, and Samsung devices. Xiaomi’s flagship phones currently offer 27W fast charging and 18W wireless charging, so even 40W wired charging would be a big step up.

Faster charging generally introduces challenges such as heat, while also potentially shortening a battery’s lifespan. So hopefully Xiaomi has overcome these hurdles if it’s indeed offering faster speeds than 50W.

The image and post clearly mention 5G as well, suggesting that whatever is announced at this event will appear on a 5G Xiaomi phone too. We’ve seen leaks related to a Xiaomi Mi 9 5G variant too, but we’re also edging closer to the traditional launch window for the Mi Mix series.
