TL;DR
  • We may finally have a global launch date for the Xiaomi 12 series.
  • The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones could hit Europe and other markets later this month.

The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro might finally be ready to step outside China. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 phones went official back in December, but there has been no word on their global availability since then. That changes today.

According to a leak by Android Planet, the Xiaomi 12 series is set to launch globally on March 15. The phones should hit Europe and other markets on the date, the publication claims.

Xiaomi hasn’t officially confirmed the March 15 launch for the handsets, but the leak suggests that the company will be holding an online event to make the announcement.

The vanilla and Pro variants of Xiaomi’s 2022 flagships feature different spec sheets. However, they do have some things in common.

Both models pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, giving them 5G capabilities with the integrated X65 modem. They also get 120Hz AMOLED displays, although the 12 Pro offers higher resolution and more real estate.

The duo also boast impressive charging speeds. However, the Xiaomi 12 Pro outpaces the standard model’s 67W charging with a 120W solution. The devices share 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging capabilities.

Xiaomi also has a cheaper 12X model with the Snapdragon 870 chip, a 6.28-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a 50MP primary camera, a 32MP selfie shooter, and a 4,500mAh battery with 67W charging support.

It’s unclear if the company will launch all three models on March 15. Xiaomi didn’t announce an Ultra model in China, but rumors suggest it exists. The smartphone maker may be saving it for later, or the device could accompany the existing models at their global unveiling. We’ll just have to wait and see what Xiaomi decides.
