Update (02/07/2018): The X-Files: Deep State, the TV tie-in game from developer Creative Mobile, is now up for download from the Google Play Store.

The hidden object adventure-style title is available as a free-to-play game complete with in-app purchases. As an advance warning, the listing which I’m looking at on the UK version of the Play Store shows microtransactions that range from £0.89 to a whopping £299.99 per item (just over $400).

The early user reviews have been decent, so if you’re a big fan of supernatural sci-fi and Telltale Games-like adventures with a few mini-games thrown in, you might want to give it a try. You can get a taste of the gameplay in the official Play Store trailer above.

Original story (11/28/2017): The X-Files is going mobile. Today, FoxNext Games and Creative Mobile announced that they’re bringing The X-Files universe to your phone.

In the new game, The X-Files: Deep State, you take on the role of an FBI Special Agent chasing down the truth. The storyline revolves around an alien invasion and government conspiracies. You must find hidden clues, collect evidence, solve puzzles and interrogate witnesses and suspects. Your goal is to solve the case, but you must be careful because your decisions affect how the story plays out.

In addition to the main storyline, Deep State will have self-contained episodes that take on standalone paranormal cases. It will feature character customization options too, with players choosing the appearance and style of their character. The game takes place in Spring of 2010 which puts it between season 9 and 10 of the television series. While it didn’t go into specifics, FoxNext did promise that the game would feature some fan-favorite characters from the TV series.

The X-Files: Deep State will be free to play and contain optional in-app purchases. The game will have new cases to solve each month, with “mytharc” and monsters of the week, too. It will be released on Android, iOS, and Facebook in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. The game’s website currently has a countdown running that points to a release on February 6, 2018, but nothing is official yet.

You can catch the new season of The X-Files on January 3 on Fox.
