Google purchasing Waze

Waze, the social navigation app which was acquired by Google a little while ago, has just received an update to version 3.8, complete with plenty of shiny new features, as well as the usual array of miscellaneous bug fixes.

Being a social app, Waze’s latest additions mainly revolve around interactions with other people. Users are now able to find and request new friends, which can also be pulled directly from existing contact lists and social media. Waze has revamped the design for sharing your location with contacts, and a friend’s location can be conveniently saved for future navigation. The app also makes it easier to keep track of who has your location information.

One of the other more useful features packed in with the update is the option to keep Waze in focus whilst taking a call. So no more losing your bearings if you have to answer your phone.

In case I missed anything, here’s a copy of the change log:

  • Find friends on Waze by adding Contacts
  • Send friend requests & manage your list
  • New design for sending location
  • Locations sent between friends are saved for future navigation
  • Easily share drive from ETA screen
  • See who’s viewing your shared drive
  • Keep Waze on screen when answering calls
  • Bug fixes

Waze has also published a video, highlighting the new features. Neat.

If you haven’t tried Waze already, now seems like a pretty good time. I’ll leave the Google Play link right here.
