Want to buy a domain? Go to Google

Google will not be hosting your website as they will only be handling the domain registration aspect. For everything else, Google has partnered with Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, and Shopify.

When you want to buy a domain, where do you go? GoDaddy? Name? DreamHost? Now, you can go to “Google Domains” to buy and register a domain.

According to TechCrunch, Google has disclosed the following information:

  • Free private registration
  • Free email forwarding to your personal Gmail inbox
  • Free domain forwarding
  • Support for up to 100 sub-domains
  • Plans to support the new domain endings that will roll out over the next few years
  • Full phone support for Google Domain customers, available Monday through Friday from 9AM to 9PM EST.

Google will not be hosting your website as they will only be handling the domain registration aspect. For everything else, Google has partnered with Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, and Shopify. Google will not to charge customers anything extra to hide personal information that must be provided when registering a website.

At the moment, this is just a private beta. If you want to try and get an invite, you can “Request an invite” on the Google Domains page. Google has not said how many people that they will let into the beta service.
