zii_eggofficialSome of you will already be aware of Creative’s first touchscreen player called the Zii Egg. On paper, this is one of the most exciting Android devices proposed at the moment not least because of the rumored price tag of only $199. Among many things, the Zii EGG is able to output 1080p HDMI, offers X-Fi audio processing and supports OpenGL ES 3D graphics. This is all because of the ZMS-05 Media Processor that is available through this Zii EGG development edition Plaszma platform. According to Creative themselves, “Plaszma is an open standard development platform designed to let you create customized applications and devices. Plaszma comprises Plaszma OS, SDK and the full suite of hardware.” After the jump there are a few videos which mention many of the interesting points of the Zii EGG and also shows some demonstration snippets of its abilities. I have transcribed some of the technical specifications next, but a more comprehensive list is also available after the jump.

Hardware features include “480px by 320px multi touch capacity screen. We have 32 GB of internal memory plus a full size SD card slot. There is a VGA camera on the front that can be used for video conferencing with a HD camera on the back which can be used for video recording or photos plus a dedicated camera button. On the base there is a headphone socket mini-USB and docking connector. The docking connector brings out the composite video, line in line out and HD TV connection. We also have a speaker, a microphone, accelerometer, and light sensor. For connectivity there is Bluetooth, Wifi and hardware GPS… This is available to license for software developers, OEMS and ODMs…”
