Microsoft Teams is one of the many remote work apps that saw its popularity grow exponentially during the pandemic. Even if you don’t need it for work, anyone who bought a new Windows laptop or upgraded to Windows 11 would be greeted with a Microsoft Teams logo installed by default and locked to the taskbar. If you don’t plan to use it anymore, here’s how to uninstall Microsoft Teams from Windows.

QUICK ANSWER

To uninstall Microsoft Teams on Windows, go to Settings > Apps > Apps and features, or use the Windows search bar to search for Add or remove programs. Find Microsoft Teams on the list, tap the three vertical dots icon, and click Uninstall. You will also have to uninstall Teams Machine-Wide Installer to ensure that Teams isn't automatically reinstalled on your device later.

You might not want to uninstall Microsoft Teams completely; just not have it take up space on your taskbar. You can easily remove it from the taskbar by right-clicking on the Teams icon and clicking on Unpin from the taskbar.

Microsoft Teams is on the list of apps that automatically loads when Windows starts by default. Having a lot of apps that auto-start can slow your system down and is especially not useful if you don’t use Teams.

To find the auto startup apps, open Settings (search for Settings in the Windows search bar), click on Apps in the left-hand menu, and go to Startup.

Scroll down the list, look for Microsoft Teams, and click the toggle to disable it. If you see two Microsoft Teams apps on the list, as I do, it’s because there are two versions of the app available — one for personal use and the other Enterprise edition for work or school.

If you’ve never used Teams and don’t plan to, it’s best to uninstall the app. Search for Add or remove programs in the Windows search bar, or go to Settings > Apps > Apps and features.

Scroll down the list to find Microsoft Teams. If too many apps are installed, you can also search for Teams using the Search apps bar below the App list header.

Click on the three vertical dots icon and select Uninstall. Make sure that you also uninstall Teams Machine-Wide Installer. This program lets Windows automatically install Teams on your system, so you must remove it to ensure Teams doesn’t pop up again.
