TL;DR
  • The Teracube 2e is the next phone from the brand. It is in the pre-order phase right now.
  • The phone has a user-replaceable battery, a four-year warranty, and has an early-adopter cost of just $99.
  • It’s the follow-up to the first Teracube phone, which launched last year.

At the 2020 iteration of CES, Android Authority got some hands-on time with the first Teracube phone. The device wasn’t a specs powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination, but it offered a four-year warranty for a low price. It was an interesting new addition to the smartphone industry.

Today, Teracube is taking the wraps off its next device: the Teracube 2e. The new phone takes a lot of what worked with the original but ups the ante on sustainability while simultaneously lowering the price.

Teracube 2e: It’s got stuff nobody else has any more

Physically, the Teracube 2e seems like it came from six or seven years ago. It has a plastic back panel that you can easily remove, which allows you to swap out the battery anytime you like. Of course, that battery is much larger than phones had seven years ago at 4,000mAh.

Elsewhere on the inside, you’ll find 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage (expandable with a microSD card, up to 128GB), and a MediaTek Helio A25 processor. There’s a dual-lens camera on the back (13MP wide-angle and 8MP depth sensor), an 8MP selfie shooter on the front, and a 6.1-inch HD+ display. The phone ships with Android 10 and will get Android 11 at some point down the line. Oh yeah, and there’s a headphone jack.

The real star of the Teracube business model, though, is the included four-year warranty. This ensures that you can ship your phone back if anything goes wrong for a flat $39 fee. Before you even ship out your broken phone, Teracube will ship you a refurbished model that’s then yours to keep. Your broken Teracube 2e will then ship back to the company for repair and then it will end up as someone else’s replacement later on.

Right now, the Teracube 2e is in the pre-order phase on Indiegogo. Although it’s a crowdfunding page, the company has already achieved one successful launch, so you should feel safe putting your money down on this one. There’s an early bird special at the moment that gets you the phone for just $99, which is a huge discount off its usual $200 price.
