Sony Mobile Russia to hold a press event on March 18 - is it the official launch of the Xperia SP and Xperia L?
Yesterday, we saw the Sony Xperia L and Xperia SP being listed by UK retailers as “coming soon,” even though the mid-range devices from the company haven’t been officially announced yet. Well, it looks like the announcement we’ve been waiting for could be on March 18 in Moscow. Sony Mobile Russia sent out invites for a press event on that day, and is planning to present several new products, likely including the Xperia SP and Xperia L.
The specifications of both devices are still unconfirmed, but if various rumors and leaks are to be believed, the Sony Xperia SP (C5303 or HuaShan) is expected to feature a 4.55-inch display with 1280×720 resolution, 1.7Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, Adreno 320 GPU, 1GB RAM, and an 8MP rear camera. Other specifications such as the battery, and internal storage capacity are still unknown, but Sony devices have always featured microSD expansion, and that should still hold true for the Xperia SP.
The Xperia L is expected to feature a FWVGA (854 x 480) display, a 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, Adreno 305 graphics, an 8 MP camera, 8 GB of internal storage, further expandable via microSD, and a 1,700 mAh battery. According to the price listings, the Xperia L is naturally significantly cheaper than the Xperia SP.
Both the Xperia SP and Xperia L are great mid-range offerings, and if Sony can get the pricing right in various worldwide markets, these devices will nicely complement the high-end Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. I’m assuming both the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, along with the Xperia Tablet Z will also be making an appearance at the press event, since Sony is banking on its high-end lineup to make a significant move in the Android scene.
What are your thoughts? Are you looking forward to the official launch of the Xperia SP and Xperia L? Would you consider buying either of these devices? Let us know in the comments section below.
