Check out this unusual smartphone with 8 rear cameras, 2 on each corner
- A Chinese tech company has patented a phone design with eight cameras, two on each corner.
- The device has a bezel-free appearance sans any front camera, notches, or punch holes.
- Admire it just for its unique and unusual design.
Just how many cameras can you fit on a smartphone? If the recent past has taught us anything, the answer is as many as an OEM wishes. But where they put those cameras has never really been a point of contention. Primary cameras on phones are usually bunched together in one corner or in the middle near the top, no matter how many they are. But not on this phone.
Uncovered by folks over at LetGoDigital, this Chinese smartphone features a total of eight rear cameras, two on each corner of the phone. Talk about out-of-the-box smartphone design.
The device in question is not in production or headed for it. It’s just a design patented by component manufacturer Lens Technology. The company usually supplies smartphone parts to brands like Apple, Samsung, and HUAWEI. It’s unclear why the firm would patent a smartphone design when it’s not in the business of making phones.
Nevertheless, the unusual phone features what looks like a bezel-less display with a physical button at the bottom. There’s no front camera visible while the rear, as mentioned before, has two cameras on each corner with a flash sandwiched in the middle of all four camera housings.
Sadly, the design patent is limited to just that. There is no mention of how these weirdly placed cameras will be used or why there’s such a huge gap between the modules. Anyhow, it’s certainly intriguing to see companies experiment with newer concepts, even if they’re as strange as they come. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if this design stands the test of time and makes it to an actual phone.
