We’ve all been there… you’re video calling someone on your phone or tablet and you need to get something else done. Looking up a phone number or a piece of information is significantly harder due to video calling platforms not allowing you to multitask. Well, at least up until now, thanks to the newest update coming to Skype for Android.

The latest and greatest feature Skype is bringing us is one called picture-in-picture, which allows you to get out of the Skype window and go do something else on your device, all while keeping the connection with your current video call. We’ve seen this feature in the past, but it’s just now making its way to phones and tablets.

There are a handful of other improvements added to the update as well, like chats loading faster when entering them from your notifications, the ability to receive files via Skype for iPhone and other new clients, support for formatted text, and native support for Hindi.

This is a pretty nice update to the video chatting service, and should be rolling out to devices very soon. Skype is one of those apps that could always use a performance boost, so this update should be pretty well-received for people using the app. Have you used the picture-in-picture view yet? How are you liking it?
