Seek thermal camera brings heat vision to your Android phone
As smartphone cameras continue to advance we are seeing increasing megapixels, the abilities to take better night shots, 4K recording, optical image stabilization and many other improvements in the area of pictures and video. But what about more off-the-wall features like heat vision? Although no existing smartphone has that feature by default, accessories like the Seek thermal camera essentially gives you the ability to see heat signatures in a fashion that’s sort of like the thermal imaging capabilities of the predator.
The Android (and iOS) camera plugs into your microUSB (or lightening) port and offers up a resolution of 206 x 156 pixels, which might not be that high, but is more than good enough for these purposes. The Seek is designed to work with most devices with Android 4.3 or higher, as long as they support USB on the go.
As for the price? The Seek will set you back $199. While that might seem pricey, keep in mind that’s a fraction of the price of similar solutions used by firefighters, the military, and other professionals. Obviously it’s not going to be quite as advanced as these solutions, but it’s more than capable of working as a fun parlor trick.
There’s also some more practical usage case scenarios for the Seek like scanning an alley for suspicious characters before walking into it, checking to see how hot a beverage is (okay, probably not that practical), finding a lost pet in the dark, and really the only limit is your imagination. What do you think, interested in picking one up or is $199 just too much to spend on something that will primarily be just a novelty for impressing your friends?
