Hardware specs for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 have leaked online, alongside rumors of an official unveiling with the Galaxy Gear 2 at this year's Mobile World Congress.
February 13, 2014

According to insider sources who have been in contact with ZDNet, Samsung is preparing to unveil its new Galaxy Tab 4 and Galaxy Gear 2 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

There have also been leaks regarding the new Galaxy Tab 4’s hardware, which cropped up on MySamsungPhones the other day.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 4 looks to be arriving in the usual three sizes, 10.1 inch, 8 inch, and 7 inch, just like the previous generations, with the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 also appearing to come in WiFi and LTE variations. All of the tablets will be making the leap up to Quad-Core processors, which will all be clocked at 1.2 Ghz, with RAM amounts also receiving a slight bump up to 1.5GB in the 10.1 inch and LTE enabled 8 inch tablets.

Maximum MicroSD memory has also increased across the board, will all the tablets now supporting an additional 64 GB, although internal memory remains stuck at 16GB, with just 8GB for the Tab 4 7.0. The Tab 4 10.1 is set to also receive some improved camera hardware, with an 8MP rear facing camera and 2MP front camera. Interestingly, the Tab 4 8.0 will actually have its camera hardware bumped down from a 5MP front camera to just a 3MP snapper. Display resolutions remain the same as their Tab 3 counterparts, but they will all ship with the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat.

The image below details the hardware differences between the Galaxy Tab 4 and Tab 3 (click to enlarge). There’s also the mention of some new Samsung services, including Hub services, Hancom Office, and E-Meeting software, suggesting that business clientele may be receiving some additional attention this generation. Overall, the new tablets appear to be decent incremental upgrades to the older generation.

We had already heard reports that Samsung would be unveiling its new Galaxy Gear at this year’s MWC back in 2013. However, ZDNet’s local sources also seem to know a little about the Galaxy Gear 2’s hardware, the old Galaxy Gear’s AMOLED display is to be replaced by a new flexible OLED design. Samsung’s new smartwatch will also ship in an entirely new design and will come packing some currently unspecified new features. Price is also rumored to be a key issue for Samsung, but whether or not this translates into a cheaper product remains to be seen.

Is wearable technology going to be on your radar at the MWC, or are you more interested in smartphones and tablets?
