Whether or not you can easily take advantage of it is another matter.

TL;DR
  • Samsung appears to have received certification for a 65W travel charger.
  • The device hints at possible extra-fast charging for the Galaxy S30.
  • Support isn’t guaranteed given Samsung’s recent history, however.

Samsung’s Galaxy S30 (or whatever it may be called) is largely a mystery at this stage, but we might know something about its fast charging abilities. GalaxyClub (via SamMobile) has found a South Korean certification for what looks to be a Samsung 65W charger, offering a significant step up from the company’s optional 45W adapter.

There aren’t any further technical details about the potential Galaxy S30 charger, although its EP-TA865 name suggests it will be a direct sequel to the 45W brick (the EP-TA845). That means USB-C power aimed at mobile devices, not laptops.

Whether or not the Galaxy S30 supports 65W fast charging is another matter. While many modern Samsung phones allow 45W charging, the Galaxy Note 20 series doesn’t — there’s a chance this could be for other phones. Samsung doesn’t bundle its fastest charger with any of its phones, so you might still need to buy one for the Galaxy S30 regardless of its capabilities.

There are incentives for Samsung to embrace speedier power delivery, however. It’s no secret that 65W charging is increasingly common, even among budget phones, and it might come to upcoming high-end models like the OnePlus 8T. Brands like OPPO have even implemented ultra-fast 125W charging. Samsung might want to give the Galaxy S30 a 65W fast charging option to stay competitive, even it’s just for bragging rights.

The feature might be important for some. Rumors hint that the Galaxy S30 series might not make significant strides in battery capacity. If you struggle to make it through a full day of use on an S20 Ultra, you might see the same from the new model. The addition of 65W charging would at least give you more energy with that mid-day top-up.
