The Samsung Galaxy S10 Unpacked event invite.

Following today’s report from WSJ about the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S10, we now have official confirmation straight from the source.

Samsung has started sending out invitations for a Galaxy Unpacked event set for Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in San Francisco.

The design of the invite leaves no doubt that Samsung will launch the tenth edition of its flagship phone on February 20. The image appears to depict the slightly curved edge of a purple phone, but there’s little else we can glean from it.

An animation shared on Samsung’s Twitter account suggests the company is keen to highlight the extremely thin bezels on its new phones.

While the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 Plus are a shoo-in, it’s less clear if we’ll get to see the fabled folding device Samsung’s been working on for the better half of a decade. The invite itself doesn’t make any mention of the so-called Galaxy F, but it’s likely that Samsung will use the opportunity to show off the device.

According to people familiar with the matter talking to the WSJ, Samsung will indeed introduce its first folding phone on February 20, but it’s not clear if the device will get a full launch at that time.

Samsung first lifted the veil off its folding device efforts during its Developer Conference in November.

Up until now, Samsung was widely expected to introduce its new devices during MWC 2019, which starts February 25 in Barcelona. It looks like Samsung has brought the grand debut of the S10 a bit forward. Even so, the Galaxy S10 will be one of the main attractions of the show.

As for the reasons for this apparent change of plans, The Investor speculates that Samsung may be trying to preempt HUAWEI’s launch of its own foldable phone in Barcelona. The Chinese company previously said it would launch a 5G-equipped foldable device in 2019, but has yet to reveal any plans for MWC.

Samsung will be livestreaming what shapes up to be one of the most consequential Unpacked events in its history. Who’s excited?
