  • Samsung isn’t completely killing the Galaxy Note line, according to DJ Koh.
  • The firm plans to launch a new Note device in 2022.

Samsung will not kill the Galaxy Note series entirely, but there will be no Galaxy Note 21 series this year. This according to a new report citing Samsung’s IT and mobile head DJ Koh.

As reported by Digital Daily (via MySmartPrice) Koh noted at a shareholder meeting in Korea that Samsung intends to launch a new Galaxy Note model in 2022. It’s skipping a launch this year due to the Galaxy S21 Ultra‘s launch. This clashes with a report from December which suggested Samsung was pushing for a new Note this year.

Doubts that Samsung was killing the Note line first surfaced when the S21 Ultra debuted. Samsung’s current flagship brings support for the S Pen — a feature previously unique to the Galaxy Note series. Given this, it seemed possible Samsung would replace the Note series with the S line as its only figurehead.

However, in delaying its next Note series, it’s likely Samsung wants to give the Ultra a chance to garner sales unabated by a rival in its own family. The ongoing semiconductor crunch is also weighing on Samsung’s mind. “The imbalance between the supply of parts and demand in the information technology side is serious,” said Koh.

Koh didn’t state when the new Note series phone will arrive in 2022, saying that “timing may vary.” The line traditionally debuts in the latter half of the year as Samsung’s H2 flagship. It also remains unclear if the firm will launch a device to specifically cover the Galaxy Note’s absence this year.
