MetroPCS announced yesterday its plan to bring out a mid-range Android-powered smartphone just in time for school season. According to its press release, MetroPCS will be launching the Samsung Admire “soon” and expects the handset to be the “perfect choice” as an entry-level smartphone for first-time users or for budget-conscious shoppers.

Available in red and gray covers, the Samsung Admire carries middle-tier specs: an 800-MHz processor, 3.5-inch display, and 3.2-megapixel camera–enough power for any user–whether student or not–to enjoy essential features of an advanced Android smartphone.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread has been confirmed as its operating system, and will expectedly provide a fast and stable user experience with the device.

MetroPCS hasn’t pegged a precise release date for the Samsung Admire yet, but we assume it will be some time this August (probably middle of the month, or late August) just in time for back-to-school shoppers to grab one before classes start.

No word has been given about the pricing, too, but we figure this handset ought to be somewhere in the US$140 to US$175 range (retail, no-contract price) if MetroPCS expects buyers to consider it.

Are you getting one of these for school?
