Rovio’s Retry arrives to Google Play

Rovio's Retry has now landed on Google Play, bringing us a Flappy Birds clone with several twists that actually make it worth trying out.
October 22, 2014

Generally Rovio sticks to what it does best, milking the hell out of the Angry Birds franchise. Every once in a while, however, the company branches out a bit and does something different, though many times its just a promotional tie-in app like Dreamworks’ The Croods.

With that in mind, the company’s internal LVL11 team has been working on a Flappy Bird clone for a while now, and it has finally hit Google Play. Before you groan “not another clone!”, it’s important to point out that this game actually has some twists to the gameplay that help it stand out such as interesting controls for flying the game’s plane. The game is also broken into levels, instead of being a “continue until you die” experience like Flappy Bird and more traditional clones of that game. At the completion of each level you even have to properly land the plane.

So is it worth trying? That’s up to you, I’ve only messed around with it for a few minutes and found it to be similar enough to Flappy Birds to bring that same addictive-yet-frustrating experience but it’s also different enough that you feel like you playing something fresh and it seems a tiny bit more forgiving.

For those willing to give it a go, you’ll find it for free on Google Play, though there’s some in-game advertising and (surprise, surprise) in-app purchases as well. Even better, the game works with just about any Android device out there, requiring only Android 2.3 or better to run!
