TL;DR
  • realme has launched the realme GT in China.
  • The phone packs a Snapdragon 888 chipset, 120Hz display, and 64MP main shooter.
  • It’s priced aggressively too at well under $450.

After months of rumors and teasers, the realme GT is finally official. The latest device from the Chinese brand looks like one of its most competitive on paper, as it packs flagship hardware at a much lower price point.

Aesthetically though, it’s nothing remarkable. Its standout feature is a vegan yellow and black stripe colorway — an obvious hat-tip to performance vehicles. Beyond this, it’s rather tough to tell the phone apart from its cheaper siblings. That said, its specs sheet is the real giveaway.

For starters, the realme GT packs a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s a little less impressive to hear the screen’s resolution is pegged at FHD+. Nevertheless, the hardware beneath the display should turn some heads. Pixels are pushed around by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mated to at least 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

As for imaging, realme is employing a 64MP main camera joined by 8MP wide-angle and 2MP macro shooters. Mounted in a cutout up front is a 16MP selfie camera.

The realme GT is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 65W charging, while the phone will run realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11. There are practical feature inclusions too, like a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.2 support, dual 5G smarts, and stereo speakers.

realme GT: Price and availability

Two realme GT configs will be available in China through realme’s online store. The cheapest option with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at 2,799 yuan (~$433). A 12GB/256GB option is also on offer for 3,299 yuan (~$510). Notably, the yellow colorway is only available in this guise. Gray and dark blue/black color options will be available in both configs.

That’s some pretty aggressive pricing from realme. Should the realme GT see a global launch, a ~$500 price would throw it into direct competition with the newly-launched Redmi K40 Pro. Xiaomi’s Snapdragon 888 phone launched at 2,799 yuan (~$433). But global pricing can be substantially higher than Chinese prices, so we’re not holding our breath for a ~$500 price tag.
