Popular quiz game QuizUp updated with ART support and improved layout
QuizUp launched just a few days ago on Android and it has already gathered a massive following. It’s clear why as soon you try it – there’s a variety of topics to choose from, the user interface is intuitive and attractive, and the gameplay is quite addictive.
There was one big problem with the game though, that mostly affected advanced Android users like you and I – QuizUp was not compatible with Android Runtime (ART), the experimental runtime that Google launched with Android 4.4 KitKat, which will eventually take the place of the venerable Dalvik. QuizUp simply failed to start on devices running ART, forcing users to switch back to Dalvik or sit the game out.
Not anymore – version 1.0.2 of QuizUp brings ART compatibility, improved layout, and unspecified improvements to gameplay. We haven’t spotted any big changes in the UI, but the game seems to work smoother overall. Moreover, the app seems to have stopped pushing unsolicited notifications about friends activity, which was quite a nuisance before.
Keep in mind that QuizUp has known issues with certain Android devices, that won’t prevent you from playing it, but might affect the experience. These devices are:
- Moto G
- Moto X
- Samsung Galaxy SII
- Sony Xperia Z Ultra (layout & image rendering issues)
- Sony Xperia tipi (also known as Sony Tapioca, ST21i, ST21ia)
