Update – August 18, 2021 (11:43 am ET) The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Unite will finally launch for Android and iOS devices on September 22, after first launching for the Nintendo Switch back on July 21. Original story – June 24, 2020 – In June 2020, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company held a special Pokémon Presents broadcast. The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara announced a new game called Pokémon Unite. A year later, it was revealed that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices later in 2021.

Is Pokémon Unite a Pokémon MOBA?

For the most part, the game does appear to be a Pokémon MOBA. Or a Pokémon League of Legends, if you will. Pokémon Dota 2, perhaps? However you slice it, Pokémon Unite is a 5-on-5 co-op and competitive game with three lanes, characters that level up in each match, and just about every other trapping we expect to see from other games in the MOBA genre.

Does Pokémon Unite have online multiplayer?

Not only will the game have online multiplayer, but it’ll actually be the main feature of the game since it’s a real-time, team-based strategy game. That means players will be working with a group of teammates to bring down the opposition.

How much does Pokémon Unite cost?

The game will be free to start, which is Nintendo’s more accurate term for free-to-play. That means gamers won’t need to spend any money to get started, but there will likely be plenty of ways to spend money on microtransactions as they play (much like how Pokémon Go works).

Nintendo announced Pokémon Unite will launch on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. Importantly, the game will feature crossplay support, so fans will be able to play with their friends regardless of which platform they choose.

Who’s developing Pokémon Unite?

Helming the development of the game is Tencent’s TiMi Studios. This is the same team responsible for massive mobile hits like Call of Duty: Mobile and Arena of Valor, so the team has some pedigree with big mobile games.

Is there any Pokémon Go crossover?

As of this writing, there’s been nothing announced regarding any crossover with Pokémon Go, though it’s still early. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company could announce plans to do something in the future.
