Playstation companion app update adds live steam viewing
A new update for Sony’s Playstation mobile app is now available for Android (and iOS), which focuses on improving the app’s support for video and live stream content. Live streaming integration was a big selling point for the Playstation 4, and now gamers will be able to stream their friend’s games from their mobile devices.
The new Live from Playstation feature lists a selection of game streams which can be viewed from your smartphone or tablet. However, these videos won’t appear directly within the Playstation app, instead, Twich.tv streams will open up in your web browser, whilst UStream feeds will be linked to the service’s own Android application. Fortunately the Usteam app is also free on Google Play.
Another notable media based feature that’s been squeezed in to the Playstation companion app is support for video notifications and playback from the PlayStation Store. These can be found under the “what’s new” on your home screen.
The update also addresses several stability issues, and promises to no longer automatically connect to, and thereby wake, your Playstation 4 when the system is in standby mode.
If you haven’t tested the app out yet, you can grab it from the Play Store free of charge.
