Pebble announces three new limited edition colors

Pebble has announced three new bright, fun limited edition colors to the mix, priced at the same $150 mark as its existing standard model watch.
August 5, 2014

While the Pebble is far from the first smartwatch ever, it was one of the first watches to truly receive mainstream levels of support from consumers thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign. Since then? While the overall hardware has remained the same, earlier this year they began selling a more ‘premium’ looking Pebble Steel model and also successfully rolled out the Pebble AppStore.

Of course, competition in the smartwatch game has been heating up quite a bit lately. Not only did Samsung get into the game last year with its Gear series but, more recently, Google also rolled out its Android Wear platform. Part of the appeal of the Pebble is its simplistic design and great battery life, though we imagine the time for a true second-generation upgrade is drawing near. In the meantime, Pebble is hoping to appease would-be smartwatch owners by offering up three new limited edition colors.

The new colors come by the somewhat corny names of Fresh Green, Hot Pink and Fly Blue. Aside from their bright colors, the watches offer the same experience as the standard Pebble and are priced at the same $150 as the non-Steel model. What do you think of Pebble, now that the watch has been around for a while? Still worth picking one up, or should the company push out a revamped successor if they hope to continue being a major player in the wearables game?
