TL;DR
  • Niche Chinese brand Oukitel has launched the WP19 smartphone.
  • It’s equipped with a 21,000mAh battery for week-long endurance.
  • The phone will set you back ~$744 from the likes of AliExpress.

It’s not uncommon to find 5,000mAh batteries in many smartphones today, making for a refreshing change from six or seven years ago. What if this battery capacity isn’t enough for you, though? Well, you could go for the few 6,000mAh or 7,000mAh phones, but a new device has arrived that blows all other competitors out of the water.

Little-known Chinese brand Oukitel has launched the Oukitel WP19 smartphone, and it offers a 21,000mAh battery (h/t: Liliputing). This makes it quite possibly the biggest battery in a commercially available smartphone.

Guide: The best portable chargers and power banks in 2022

The company promises that the WP19 can last for a week with its battery, but also says you can expect 36 hours of video playback, 123 hours of music, 122 hours of calls, and 2,252 hours on standby (or just over three months). This is also one of the few times when reverse wired charging support makes sense on a smartphone, as this battery is basically equivalent to a power bank anyway.

Once you’ve finally conked out the battery, the manufacturer says you can make use of 27W wired charging to fully charge the phone in four hours. That’s a long time to wait, but we’re guessing an hour-long charge should still give you roughly a day of usage.

What else does it offer?

Oukitel hasn’t dished out measurements, but the WP19 certainly seems like a super-thick smartphone. Staying with the design, the phone is equipped with IP68 water/dust resistance, a MIL-STD-810G rating, and a side fingerprint scanner. Oddly enough, the device still has a slight camera hump despite being so thick.

Moving to the core specs, the new phone is equipped with a mid-range MediaTek Helio G95 4G SoC (broadly comparable to the Snapdragon 720G), 8GB of RAM, 256GB of expandable storage, and a 6.78-inch FHD+ 90Hz LCD panel.

Other noteworthy specs include a triple rear camera system (64MP main, 20MP night vision, 2MP macro), a 16MP front camera, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and Android 12 with Google support.

The Oukitel WP19 is currently available for €694 (~$744) on AliExpress, which puts it in the same region as devices like the Google Pixel 6 and POCO F4 GT. So you’re basically spending flagship-level cash for a mid-range phone with a gigantic battery.

In saying so, we’d recommend you approach companies like this with some caution. It’s been around for years now, but niche brands like Oukitel are often lacking when it comes to OS and security update commitments, while after-sales service will likely lag behind major manufacturers. You’ll also have to conduct due diligence when it comes to supported network bands for your country.
