TL;DR
  • A new rumor suggests an OPPO flip-style foldable phone could land this year.
  • The rumor also suggests the phone could have a lower price than one would expect.
  • Oppo’s only foldable launched so far is the Find N, which hasn’t left China yet.

OPPO has launched one foldable phone so far: the OPPO Find N. The phone is like a more compact version of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, and we thought it was pretty cool. Unfortunately, OPPO hasn’t launched the phone outside of its native China.

Our thoughts: The OPPO Find N foldable

Now, though, we have a rumor about another OPPO foldable (via GSM Arena). This could be the long-awaited OPPO flip-style foldable we first heard about last year. That phone never materialized, so this could be the same one.

The biggest rumor related to this OPPO flip phone, though, is its price. The rumor suggests OPPO is aiming to price the phone around CNY 5,000 (~$757). If this pans out, this foldable could be much cheaper than its biggest competitor, which is the Galaxy Z Flip 3 ($999).

If OPPO can hit that pricing target — and actually bring the phone to countries that aren’t China — it could make a huge splash in the market. Considering Samsung completely dominates the foldable market at the moment, any bit of extra competition would be most welcome.

Elsewhere, the OPPO flip-style phone is rumored to land with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, which heavily suggests we wouldn’t see it until the second half of 2022.
