OnePlus 8 Leaked Render Back and Front

The OnePlus series of phones are known for their fast wired charging capabilities, but none of them have ever shipped with wireless charging before. That seems to be changing according to the latest OnePlus 8 rumors, and we’ve just got confirmation that OnePlus has joined a wireless charging interest group.

The Chinese brand is now a full member of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), according to Android Police and Mobile Scout. This group created and supports the dominant Qi wireless charging standard. Check out the image below for proof of OnePlus’ membership status.

A look at OnePlus's membership status to the WPC group.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the OnePlus 8 or future OnePlus phones will get wireless charging support. The company could decide to release earbuds with a wireless charging case or another type of product instead.

But OnePlus 8 leaks have pointed to wireless charging for a while now, so you’d think this latest development is linked to the upcoming phone range.

The news also comes as wireless charging picks up speed in the last year or so, with the Xiaomi Mi 9 and HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro hitting speeds of up to 27W. We’ve even 30W wireless charging thanks to the Mi 9 Pro 5G. So hopefully the OnePlus 8 can hit similar speeds if it’s actually offering this feature.
