TL;DR
  • OnePlus has all but confirmed its smartwatch plans.
  • The company has teased the launch of the so-called OnePlus Watch on Twitter.
  • The arrival of the first teaser suggests the launch is not too far off.

OnePlus has finally acknowledged that the OnePlus Watch is real and will launch sometime soon. The company posted a teaser on Twitter, suggesting that it’ll soon add a smartwatch to its ecosystem. The announcement closely followed the launch of the OnePlus 8T flagship.

OnePlus’ tweet (seen below) throws back to its previous plans of making a smartwatch. The company first experimented with the idea back in 2016. In fact, OnePlus not only had plans, but actually had a finished product back then. It decided not to go ahead with the launch because it didn’t want to muddle its device lineup by adding a weak product, just because most smartphone companies were jumping on the smartwatch bandwagon at the time.

Now, it seems, OnePlus does see some merit in adding a watch to its growing ecosystem of products. After all, its sister brands OPPO, realme, and vivo have already entered the fitness wearables market, and OnePlus is the only one that’s left out.

What to expect from the OnePlus Watch?

We first heard about the OnePlus Watch when it appeared in regulatory listings with that name a while back. A former OnePlus employee also confirmed that the company has been actively looking into a smartwatch for the last year. This latest tweet, however, is the first time OnePlus has officially acknowledged its smartwatch plans.

Since the company has now started teasing the device, we may see it launch before the end of the year. The teaser also suggests that the OnePlus Watch could launch in India before it’s introduced in other markets.

The OnePlus Watch is expected to feature a circular dial. No other specs are tipped just yet, but we hope to see the latest Snapdragon Wear processor on it along with Google’s Wear OS software. You can read our OnePlus Watch wishlist here.
