OnePlus said we shouldn't expect any T series phones this year, but it looks like the OnePlus 9RT doesn't count.

TL;DR
  • OnePlus has revealed an October 13 launch date for the OnePlus 9RT.
  • The company will also launch the OnePlus Buds Z2 earbuds on the day.
  • It’s unclear if this is a Chinese event only or a global launch day.

OnePlus confirmed earlier this year that it wouldn’t be launching the OnePlus 9T series this year, but several leaks pointed to the OnePlus 9RT being released instead. Now, the company has made it official and revealed a launch date.

OnePlus and co-founder Pete Lau announced on Weibo that the OnePlus 9RT would be launched on October 13 at 7:30 PM Beijing time (7:30 AM ET). Lau and the company also noted the tagline of “speed has a new name.”

It sounds like this will be a Chinese launch event, but we’ve contacted the company to find out whether this will be a global launch. We’ll update the article if/when they get back to us. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 9R only launched in China and India, so you might not want to hold your breath for a US or European release just yet.

The company also posted a GIF that shows off the back of the OnePlus 9RT. This shows a phone that looks pretty much identical to the renders posted by serial leaker Evan Blass yesterday. We’ve saved and embedded the GIF below for your convenience.

This isn’t the only product OnePlus plans to show off on the day though. The company took to Weibo to confirm that it will launch the OnePlus Buds Z2 true wireless earbuds on the day as well. The Weibo post itself notes that this will offer noise reduction and long-lasting battery life. We also get a look at the earbuds (seen below), showing off a design in line with earlier leaks.

One of these earlier leaks also points to features like Bluetooth 5.2, an IP55 rating, “active noise reduction,” and up to 38 hours of hours of total playback with the charging case. So you can expect a pretty decent upgrade over the original Buds Z earbuds.

We’ll likely need to wait until next week for more official details regarding both products, but we hope OnePlus offers attractive pricing for both the OnePlus 9RT and the Buds Z2.
