OnePlus 7 Pro 90Hz display refresh rate is not working in Google Chrome

It's not clear why this is happening but it was working fine a few days ago.

OnePlus 7 Pro Display held in hand

One of the standout features of the OnePlus 7 Pro is its 90Hz display refresh rate, which the company markets as Fluid AMOLED. However, it appears that Google Chrome for Android no longer refreshes at 90Hz on the 7 Pro, even though it did just a few days ago.

A 90Hz display refresh rate enables ultra-smooth scrolling and animations. Most smartphones have displays that refresh at 60Hz only, which is fine but definitely not as good as 90Hz. Google Chrome on the 7 Pro is now refreshing at 60Hz only.

As far as we can tell, the only way to force Chrome to refresh at 90Hz now is to use ADB commands to force 90Hz universally across the entire system.

If you own a 7 Pro, you can test for yourself whether Chrome is refreshing at 90Hz or 60Hz by visiting testufo.com/refreshrate. We tested it on our own device — check out the results below:

OnePlus 7 Pro Refresh Rate In Chrome 60Hz

For the record, our OnePlus 7 Pro is running the latest stable version of OxygenOS (v9.5.11.GM21AA) and the latest stable version of Google Chrome for Android (v76.0.3809.111). Also, we checked the refresh rate a few days ago after rumors started circulating on Reddit that users were having this issue, and confirmed that Chrome was refreshing at 90Hz then. So this change happened within the past few days.

It’s not clear why Chrome would work with 90Hz at one point and then drop back down to 60Hz. However, the problem seems to be widespread as many users on Reddit are reporting the issue each day.
