TL;DR
  • According to a OnePlus spokesperson, the OnePlus 7 series will see Android 11 in December 2020.
  • That means the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro should have Oxygen OS 11 by the end of 2020.
  • This flies against rumors that the series wouldn’t see the upgrade until 2021.

Today, Android Authority received word from a OnePlus spokesperson confirming the Android 11 upgrade schedule for the OnePlus 7 series. According to OnePlus, the company plans to roll out Oxygen OS 11 to the 7-series phones in December 2020.

This confirmation flies against recent rumors suggesting that it could be 2021 before OnePlus’ 2019 flagships would see Android 11.

Since the 7-series features two slightly different chipsets — the Snapdragon 855 for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro and the 855 Plus for the 7T and 7T Pro — the upgrades will probably land at slightly different times. Theoretically, the 7T series should see the upgrade first, followed shortly thereafter by the 7-series.

OnePlus 7 Android 11 upgrades

OnePlus has had a long reputation for delivering Android upgrades at a fast pace. However, that reputation is built on the idea that the brand only releases two phones each year. Recently, the company’s portfolio has expanded significantly, which puts a strain on its upgrade speeds, no doubt.

Obviously, most OnePlus owners would hope that the Android 11 upgrade would roll out even faster. However, December 2020 will still likely beat out many other 2019 flagships from rival brands, such as Samsung.

When it does land, the OnePlus 7 Android 11 upgrade should carry with it most of the Oxygen OS 11 features present on the just-launched OnePlus 8T. That should include an option for an always-on display, although that won’t be confirmed until beta software lands.
