TL;DR
  • The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will reportedly feature 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
  • This would be the first OnePlus smartphone with 10GB of RAM.
  • OnePlus and McLaren will announce the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition December 11 in the U.K.

Yesterday, OnePlus announced a partnership with British auto company McLaren to possibly launch a special edition OnePlus 6T next month. According to MySmartPrice‘s recent leak, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition could very well live up to the auto maker’s name.

According to the report, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will feature a whopping 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You can already get that much storage if you opt for the top-tier OnePlus 6T model. However, this would be the first time a OnePlus smartphone would offer 10GB of RAM

Whether that much RAM will actually be useful in day-to-day use is a different question. The OnePlus 6T’s top-tier model features 8GB of RAM, which is already way more than Android needs. OnePlus will throw in 10GB of RAM for the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition simply because it can, not because it has to.

Then again, that is the beauty of picking up a OnePlus smartphone these days. Whereas other companies release flagships with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the OnePlus 6T starts with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. With a OnePlus smartphone, you get what you need and then some.

Elsewhere, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition reportedly retains the same specs as the normal OnePlus 6T. That means a 6.41-inch AMOLED display, dual rear 16- and 20-megapixel cameras, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, a 3,700mAh battery, and OxygenOS on top of Android 9 Pie.

OnePlus and McLaren will announce their fruits of labor December 11 at the Salute to Speed event in the U.K. Pricing is unknown, though the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition could cost more than the $629 that the top-end OnePlus 6T fetches for.
