Office for Android to land on Google Play in November?
Users around the world have been patiently waiting for a full featured Microsoft Office to officially land on Android, and if there’s any truth to recent reports, it seems that early November might just be when it happens.
According to Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet, the next generation Office suite for Android tablets could land on Google Play in early November. While there are currently versions of Office for Android, a full featured suite like what can be found on the iPad still hasn’t seen the light of day. If the iPad version is any indicator, the app would be free to download, but would require a monthly subscription service if you want to unlock editing and creation features.
While there are a number of great apps like Google Docs and Quickoffice that offer Office-like functionality, having a full fledged Android release would certainly be welcomed by those that use their Android devices for work and productivity purposes. Office is one of the most important and valuable products that Microsoft has in its repertoire, and a complete Android version for phones and tablets would undoubtedly a good thing for a lot of people.
More details to come as we receive them. What do you think, willing to pay for a “full-featured” Office experience or have you found another Android option that works just as well for you (Google Drive, Kingsoft Office, etc)?
