Out of all the well-known Android manufacturers out there, Sony has been one of the most timid players when it comes to releasing its devices in the United States. The Xperia Z2 was never even officially launched through any US carrier, sold only in unlocked form. Thankfully, Sony may be changing its tune with the Xperia Z3.
We’ve known for a while that the Xperia Z3 will launch with T-Mobile, right around the same time it shows up to other global carriers. But could they have a bigger US push in store? Sony’s mobile arm has sent out invites for an October 9th event in New York city with the tag-line “demand great” and, while they don’t say what the subject will be, it’s fairly likely that the Xperia Z3 family will be the focus here.
It’s possible this event has to do with the T-Mobile Z3 or perhaps the US launch of the Z3 Tablet Compact, but we can’t help but hope that Sony will also announce plans to bring the Z3 and/or Z3 Compact to more carriers outside of T-Mobile. For what it is worth, there have been some rumors claiming Sprint could see the Z3, though some reports suggest the phone is an exclusive to T-Mobile. The Xperia Z2 was also once rumored to be coming to Verizon, so perhaps Big Red might also have a horse in this race?
For now, we can’t say for sure what the focus of the October 9th event will be, though we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we learn more.
